Getting a 911 address (Milam County)
The State of Texas made the Central Texas Council of Governments (CTCOG) 9-1-1 Addressing office the addressing authority for Milam County (and several neighboring counties). HOTEC’s new service FAQ points Milam County members to CTCOG as well (1-888-889-1910).
- Online request: ctcog.org address request
- PDF form: 9-1-1 Address Request PDF
- Email: 911Addressing@ctcog.org · Phone: 254-770-2380 / 1-888-889-1910 · Belton office, Mon–Fri 8–5
- Typical turnaround: about 15 business days (confirm when you apply). No fee is listed on CTCOG’s pages — confirm by phone.
What to attach
- Proof of ownership (deed or Milam CAD tax statement) and CAD property ID
- At least three location details: driveway location, lat/long of driveway and structure, GPS-tagged photo, nearest neighbor address, distance/direction to nearest intersection, feet from driveway center to nearest property line, subdivision name
- Request type: new address or verification of an existing address; structure type (residence, farm, utilities-only)
Gates don’t get addresses. A structure with its own electric meter may qualify as “Utilities Only.” A second home on the same lot needs its own request. Long shared driveways can trigger a private-road naming process through County Commissioners Court — ask CTCOG early.
Finding the subdivision on a map
Estates at Highland Branch sits in unincorporated Milam County near Cameron. Highland Drive is a private subdivision road off FM 485; Crescent Bend is another named street in the same development. Satellite imagery on consumer maps is often months or years behind new road cuts, so you may need to draw or name the roads yourself.
Adding roads and addresses to map apps
Google Maps
- Open the Maps app (signed in) → Contribute → Edit map.
- If Highland Dr or Crescent Bend is missing or unnamed: Add or fix a road. Draw from FM 485 along Highland Dr past Crescent Bend, name the road, and submit.
- After Google accepts the road (days to weeks): Add or fix an address. Enter the house number and street, drag the pin to the driveway entrance, and submit.
- Do not use “Add a place” for a private home — that creates a public business/landmark listing.
Apple Maps
Search the location → Report an Issue → add or correct the address / street name.
Waze
App: Report → Map issue. Or edit at waze.com/editor.
HERE & TomTom
Many car GPS units and delivery routers use these. HERE Map Creator · TomTom MapShare.
Bing
Bing Maps → Feedback → report a missing address.
OpenStreetMap
Free map data used by many apps. Edit at openstreetmap.org: name Highland Drive / Crescent Bend, add an address node with addr:housenumber and addr:street. Map only what exists on the ground. Never put gate codes on OSM.
Delivery apps
In Amazon, UPS My Choice, and FedEx Delivery Manager, add delivery notes and adjust the map pin to the correct driveway. Keep gate codes in those private notes only — never on public maps. Recheck map edits after about 30 days.
Cameron Post Office & mailbox keys
Cameron Post Office
202 W. 2nd Street, Cameron, TX 76520 — not the DQ on W. 4th Street.
Start here to ask about residential mailbox assignment and keys. Contact the Post Office first to confirm that it serves your address, whether delivery is established, who owns the cluster mailbox, and what identification or proof of occupancy it needs you to bring.
- USPS-owned boxes: the local Post Office handles compartment keys and lock changes. USPS says a new resident is not charged for the first lock and keys; lost-key replacements can involve local charges.
- Privately owned boxes: the developer, HOA or property owner supplies locks and keys. USPS delivering to a box does not mean USPS owns it.
We have not independently confirmed who owns Highland Branch’s mailbox units. This is guidance for residential cluster mailboxes, not renting a PO Box. A validated mailing address or ZIP code alone does not establish active mail delivery.
